Cast iron menorah for Areaware wins a 2011 Chicago Good Design Award from the Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and is added to the permanent design collection of the museum. Founded in Chicago in 1950 by architects Eero Saarinen, Charles and Ray Eames and Edgar Kaufmann, Jr., GOOD DESIGN bestows international recognition upon the world's most prominent designers and manufacturers for advancing new, visionary, and innovative product concepts, invention and originality and for stretching the envelope beyond what is considered basic product and consumer design.

Associate Professor Josh Owen to give a lecture entitled "Lenses for Design" at the Rochester Institute of Technology on Wednesday, 16 March at 5:30PM in Carlson Auditorium (Room 1125, Building 76). The talk is part of the Vignelli Center for Design Studies 2010/2011 Lecture Series "Design Conversations" which includes speaking engagements by Massimo and Lella Vignelli, Alan Heller, Allan Chochinov and others. Josh Owen has accepted an offer from the Rochester Institute of Technology to join their faculty this fall. He will hold the title of Associate Professor of Industrial Design in the College of Imaging Arts and Science's School of Design and will be playing leading roles in the development of the Vignelli Center For Design Studies and various internationalization initiatives. R.I.T. was listed in Business Week's 60 Best Design Schools In The World in 2010.

Welcome to the New American Home! Going from a national perspective to a cultural melting pot, CITE follows up last year's successful show 400 Years Later, CITE Goes Dutch with an exhibition of new American design for the 2010 edition of the International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF). Curators Alissia Melka-Teichroew and Jan Habraken have created a 400 sq feet skeleton house that they filled with a selection of current work made by young, old, renowned and emerging American based designers and companies including Josh Owen LLC. The aim is to create a sense of the New American Home so visitors can experience strong and interesting contemporary design in the context of an occupied house. The exhibition features designers and companies from many different countries and backgrounds, all currently living and working in the United States of America. This reflects the dynamic melting pot culture that is uniquely and incomparably American.

Elogico is a new initiative aimed at increasing awareness and encouraging research into new, sustainable approaches to design. A combination of exhibition and round-table discussions, Elogico was first launched in 2009 during Chicago's NeoCon, followed by a lecture series held in Venice held during the Mostra Internazionale di Architettura. In 2009 Elogico shifts its focus towards New York during ICFF with an exhibition held at the prestigious Chelsea Art Museum. Casamania has been involved in Elogico since the first edition, and this year in New York designer Josh Owen participated in the round table discussion, representing Casamania, and as an internationally recognized designer, educator and overall proponent of forward-thinking, responsible design. His work for Casamania is included in the museum exhibition. The Elogico exhibition is open to the public until the June 13th at the Chelsea Art Museum: 556 West 22nd St, 10011 New York, NY. Josh Owen was invited to participate in The Dorothy Saxe Invitational, an exhibition on display at the Contemporary Jewish Museum in San Francisco from February 27 through June 2, 2009 for which eighty leading national artists were asked to reinterpret the traditional Passover plate. Owen's design for a compact Seder Plate and wine cup set challenges the notion that a ritual object need be static and engages ritual by revealing its identity through user-interaction.

During Design Philadelphia 2008, 222gallery presented Product 01, an exhibition of work from Josh Owen's Contemporary Product Design Workshop, assisted by Bryce Gibson, at the University of Pennsylvania School of Design. This experimental course introduced students with design backgrounds in Architecture, Landscape Architecture, and Engineering to product design theory and process, encouraging the integration of engineering and business concerns along with the experience of human interaction and emotive qualities.

In conjunction with Design Philadelphia 2008, 222gallery hosted an exhibition featuring a portion of the output from Build 02: Exploring Materiality with Wilsonart, curated by Josh Owen and Jason Lempieri. This exhibit presented output from their spring 2008 sophomore industrial design studio at Philadelphia University. The course was a collaboration with Wilsonart International where students were challenged to develop full-scale seating devices which explored and celebrated Wilsonart's laminate material. Selected products from the course will also be shown at the International Contemporary Furniture Fair in New York City in May of 2009.
